Default X1 Desktop Search Free Version (Win)

X1 Desktop Search is a Windows utility that indexes files and email, and then gives you instantaneous searching ability. To give you an idea of how quick it is, it begins building the "find" list as you type your search word, and is usually finished within a second or two after you type the last letter. It also provides a file viewer so you can scroll down the "find" list and quickly see the document contents as you scroll. I use this program at work, and consider it the best search solution for Windows. http://www.x1.com/

And, for those of you who remember Magellan for DOS and the Lotus forum on CompuServe, you might be interested to know the connection between Magellan and X1. http://www.x1.com/about_us/

Also interesting is the beta version of their forum searching technology. It too begins building the list of messages as you type, with the "find" list on the top of the screen and the messages displayed below. http://forumsearch.x1.com:2542/

BTW, while at the beta forum search area, if you search for the author "Andrew B." you will instantly see why I am not using this at home. <sigh> And I never did get a solution. But I'm thrilled to use this at work, and I was using it before it was free.
