Default Possible Eudora Fix!!!

Posted in the other thread but thought I'd also create a new thread so that it would be more visible...'-}}

Possible fix discovered by a dslreports user...here's the quickie summary--more tomorrow:

1. Download "hermssl.zip" (from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/files/ ) and unzipped it to its own folder-- There are 2 subfolders created: __MACOSX and HermSSL

2. Backup existing installed Eudora

3. Run vcredist.exe (installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2015)--it's in the unzipped hermssl folder --- NOTE: you may not need to install this and you can try the other steps without this and see if it works and if not, then run this, reboot and try again...

4. reboot

5. Copy all the files the from the unzipped "hermssl" folder files to my Eudora folder (files overlaid: ssleay32.dll, .ds_store, contents.txt, libeay32.dll, license.ssl, qcss.dll, readme.ssl, readme.txt, rootcerts.p7b)

6. reboot

7. Open Eudora, check the "Incoming Mail" tab for the Personality via "Properties" and double check the "Secure socket when receiving" is set to "Required, Alternate Port"

8. Try and retreive mail...

General info on this project:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/

Also see the following thread for more detailed info on using Hermes Mail along with a PDF of the info: "Possible Solutions to Eudora & Verizon, AOL, Yahoo Mail Issues"

Not me but an anon user at dslreports (you can post anonymously at dslreports) who is a Eudora user and did a search on "Eudora TLSv1.2" and found the link.

I figured that if this approach worked for you, you could continue to use Eudora but now you also have TBird as a backup...let me know if you try and it and if it works for you. One thing I forgot to mention is it appears to make Eudora run a bit faster/more smoothly--at least it seems to me that email retrieval (for both POP and IMAP) is quicker than it was before...

Did you know that

Qualcomm gave out registration codes when they stopped selling Eudora. The one for 7.1 is:
First Name: Eudora Paid Mode
Last Name: Without X1 Search
Registration Code: 6114-6862-8270-5863
Or, at least, that's what I just read. Of course, I don't need that. I paid my dues!

If you try it and it doesn't work, let me know.

Will do...I'm going to try it on the Dell laptop I use as a backup/testbed before trying it on my desktop system and I've not had a chance to do that yet...hope to get it in the next day or so...

Will let you know what happens...

It worked absolutely perfectly!!!! '-}}

Here's what I did:

1. Open Eudora

2. Cllick on "Help" and choose "Payment & Registration"

3. Click on the "Enter Your Code" option box

4. Enter the following in the appropriate data fields in the new window that displays:
--- - 1st name: Eudora Paid Mode
--- - last name: Without X1 Search
--- - reg code: 6114-6862-8270-5863

5. Ok out

The Payment & Registration window will now have the "Paid Mode" active (vs. "Sponsored Mode" it had active before).

I closed and reopened Eudora and message pops up about putting "junk" mail into the "Junk" folder--I chose "No". The pop-up displayed on both my desktop system and the laptop system so I think it's a standard popup when registering.

Thanks so much for passing this info on...'-}}

I've been thinking about this more and wondering if my information as even needed, considering that there is a Eudora on the Hermes site that anyone can download.

While I certainly could have lived without registering--and have since the day I started using Eudora (maybe 1998-1999???)--I like that my installs are now "officially sanctioned and legitimate"--albeit the Hermes Project version...'-}}

The only thing that seems to be added by registering is the addition of the Junk folder which I've never used and have no need of since I prescreen my mail before retrieving it into Eudora.

Additionally, anyone could have downloaded version 7.x of Eudora when it was new and then one would choose which registration approach to take--I had chosen "Sponsored"...
