Default PM65->PDF misplaces some graphics

Okay, boys 'n' girls, dredge time. (This is all XP Pro SP2.)

We've resurrected some old PM 6.5 docs, which we're touching up before doing a complete rework later, probably in InDesign.

Everything works fine and prints fine, but now that we try to print to PDF, two graphics on one page don't appear at all and one graphic on another page comes out vertically centered on the page and flush with the left margin (x=0). All other graphics print to PDF fine, and everything prints to a LaserJet fine.

The PDF result is identical whether we use Acrobat or CutePDF (which uses Ghostscript), so I strongly suspect the problem arises when generating the PostScript. The PPD on the print dialog is Acrobat Distiller 2017.801. I found the Acro 7 PDF PPD and dragged it into PM's PPD folder and used it, but I still get the rangecheck error.

I've tried every trick I can think of - pasting content onto new pages (which works, sometimes, but I can't get it all to work), copying all page elements into new docs. I got the vertically centered graphic to work, and one of the disappearing ones to re-appear, but then another that had printed okay causes a Distiller failure (a rangecheck error: %%[ Error: rangecheck; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller; ErrorInfo: Decode --nostringval-- ]%%)

I'm going to reboot.... any other thoughts? From Barbara's thread last month, the only sin I can think of is that I imported a handful of styles from another PM doc, and I don't see why that should upset the images. But who knows...
