Default Windows Vista Vector Desktop

I recently read that Windows Vista will abandon the 2D bitmap desktop in favor of a 3D vector desktop. Also, that documents that are displayed as thumbnails will use vectors, allowing the thumbnails to be scaled and readable. I'm not sure how far they will take this, but I assume icons and menus too. And to make this attractive, the vectors will need some decent texturing. In steps the engine from their Creature House acquisition. But I don't think this will be enough for thumbnailing photos.
