Apparently about a year or so ago, Adobe shut down the activation servers that handled the Acrobat 8 activation (and CS3) so Acrobat 8 can't be activated and is now unusable--discovered this after installing Acrobat 8 on the Windows 8.1 laptop I've been playing with.
I have always loathed activation and this crap is one reason why. Adobe has cut off perfectly legitimate and working! software forcing users to buy new software. The kicker is that when you go searching for info and find Adobe user forum postings on how to fix/resolve the activation issue, none of the links go to the pages specified and conveniently (for Adobe) the pages are basically "buy new software" pages. It took me quite a while to discover exactly what the issue was. Adobe should be ashamed... Fortunately, there are alternatives--some free, particularly if all one really needs a PDF printer instances (vs. full PDF editor)... Terrie |
