Default Another use for WD-40...'-}}

So apparently I have let my poor car sit too long and a group of yellow jackets decided that the housing for my driver's side mirror was a perfect place to build a nest--I actually drove my car to the grocery store and back before realizing that I had a little something extra with me...'-}}

I loathe yellow jackets having been on the receiving end of an stinging swarm many years ago.

My first attack was with undiluted vinegar (white) combined with a screwdriver to damage the nest. I waited a day or so to see if that would do the trick and while I think yellow jackets don't really care for vinegar, they were very brave and overcame their reluctance. Yesterday, in addition to the undiluted vinegar and the screwdriver, I sprayed WD-40 quite liberally and aggressively into the mirror housing.

I think it was the WD-40 that did the trick because when I went out to my car today to go to the grocery store, there were no more yellow jackets buzzing around my driver's side mirror. There were however a couple trying to get into my car from the passenger side--I guess none of them have driver's licenses--so when I got home from the grocery store, I opened the passenger side door--no nest or anything--spraying the end of the door with WD-40 and then closing the door and spraying the space between the closed door and the body of the car.

I did buy wasp/hornet spray while I was at the grocery store but my guess is that having now bought that, I won't need it...'-}}

I was attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets when I was eleven years old. Not fun.

Major not-fun, either way.

I do think hornets are worse just because they are so much bigger...nasty things...

Yep. And while yellowjackets sting people more frequently, the stinger generally sticks in the sting-ee, and the yellowjacket dies. Hornets can sting several times, though.

I've had the pleasure of being sting-intimate with both; give me yellowjackets ANY day. Their stings are no fun, but they're not debilitating. Hornets though? No thank you.

Great minds and all that...'-}}

So...I think I've gotten rid of all the yellow jackets hanging around my car waiting for a beer delivery--not sure what yellow jackets are into drinking...'-}}

There was one yellow jacket zooming 'round my passenger side mirror as I was on my way to the grocery store today. When I got back, I sprayed WD-40 into the passenger side mirror housing and then sprayed the gap between the closed back doors with WD-40--there had been yellow jackets around the passenger side front door the other day so I'd sprayed the gap for the front door.

I've got my fingers crossed that they will go bother someone else...'-}}
