How many people who are trying to be self-publishers for books have, or have access to, Microsoft Publisher?
I just did another Internet search, and I wasn't able to find any Publisher templates for books. Book cover, yes. Actual books -- no. Considering the number of people who seem to be venturing into writing and self-publishing, I can't understand why there are NO book templates out there for Microsoft Publisher. Is it because people who aren't in a position to buy into Adobe InDesign are just doing it in Word? |

I think it's mostly because Publisher is not really designed for books, or anything like that. It's more for flyers and brochures.

That's kind of the point behind my question. WHY is MS Publisher relegated to doing silly things like diner menus and greeting cards, yet it's packaged only in the business and professional versions of Windows? The entire arrangement just makes no sense whatsoever.

Most businesses are not publishing businesses. But they might need this kind of tool.

But it's part of the "family" version of Office, which has been renamed to Microsoft 365 Family as part of Microsoft's annual Sowing of the Confusion ceremony. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/micr...y/cfq7ttc0k5dm The Confusion's working, though, because the same product, same price, described here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/micr...t-365-products doesn't include Publisher. Some of the Business editions include it also, btw. __________________ Steve Rindsberg ==================== www.pptfaq.com www.pptools.com and stuff |

Gesundtheit! ;-) You're right, it doesn't seem to be included in the one-time-purchase versions of Office. And depending on what version of MS's site Google takes you to, may or may not be included in the subscription version. It's such a confused mess that not even its perpetrator can keep it straight. IAC, it seems fairly clear that Publisher isn't the tool you need. __________________ Steve Rindsberg ==================== www.pptfaq.com www.pptools.com and stuff |

That's just plain stupid, and the reality is that Publisher doesn't seem to offer any better formatting than what I can do directly in Word. And in Word, I can do an entire 800-page book in a single file. So I gave up on Publisher. But the experience left me wondering what Publisher is supposed to be used for, and what its target audience is. It really is kind of a red-headed step-child of a program.
