PageMaker: merging files

Hello,

Does anyone know how to merge files in PageMaker?

Details: I have a dictionary that is divided into 5 separate files (A-E, F-H, etc.) and want to merge some of the files (now that we figured out how to reduce the file size, lol).

What is the safest and/or easiest way to do this? Thanks.

I’m getting rusty on my PageMaker skills, but I do not remember any easy way to do this.

More important, though, it is not really a good idea. If your concern is how to control the printout, use PageMaker’s Book function, which will allow you to control all the details and ensure continuity of page numbering, set new chapters to open on recto (or not), and so on.

That way you avoid having very large or complex files — something PageMaker has never been completely reliable with — and get your big book printed out anyway.

If it is a very simple book, without more than one text thread per section, you can easily save the stories as tagged text, add a page to the main document, and then autoflow the tagged text file in. It will take only a few seconds per section. Of course, if there are footnotes, illustrations, or the like, you probably want to follow KTs advice.

Though first you need to work out tagging — it isn’t hard (as you know), but something new.

I once pinnned a lot of hopes on tagged text. Came to naught, more ot less. The industry let me down! :-(
