I was laughing, really, as I have no intention of getting any piece of kit that depends on iTunes to keep updated. A lot more "tablets" are already in production to run other operating systems and hopefully the manufacturers are already learning from the iPad mistakes. I have no doubt that the iPad will be a huge seller for Apple - but its not for me.

I read somewhere that 4G is just around the corner.

There have been some teething problems with WiFi use, apparently.

I agree that I don't see why iTunes should be the general sync-ing application for all Apple products and file types. (PDFs are not tunes!) Particularly when Apple already has another technology for synching:- iSync (what else would it be called?).

Many content providers are already moving away from Flash toward HTML5. (Even Adobe is catering for HTML5 in it's Flash CS5 software.) Multi-tasking is anticipated in iPhone OS v4.0, which is due out shortly.

As for "other manufacturers learning from the mistakes of the iPad": I think that's a bit much. As with so many of Apple's products, other manufacturers will copy what Apple does (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery); but because they will use off-the-shelf hardware and software, the experience won't be up to par.

The iPad is useful; is revolutionary. Give it a couple more hardware revisions and everyone is going to have/want one. And you'll have to thank your grandma through closed teeth when she gets you the Samsung tablet, because "the man in the shop said this is like an iPad".

Wow. Quite interesting statistics.

In the US per week, Apple sells an estimated 246,000 iPhones; 200,000 iPads; .... and 110,000 MACS!!!

I Ipad is just being released in Canada today. I think also in the UK and other international destinations.

Not that I'm rushing out to buy one.

One of the IT infrastructure guys at work was expecting his yesterday, but we were both really busy all day and I didn't get a chance to ask him if it had actually arrived.

It was released here in the UK and I understand sales were good. The most popular model in a report I read is the 32Gb model with 3G connectivity. The release price here for that model is £599 - about $870.

Last week I read in Business Insider and elsewhere that Apple is now more valuable than Microsoft, though not by much.

It is tempting to say that style has trumped seriousness, but that doesn’t seem adequate to explain it. It is certainly not much about computers, as your interesting stats explain.

In more stats, Apple has sold 2 million iPads in under 2 months. It took 2 years for iPods and four months for iPhones.

Microsoft's best product is the XBox, but it doesn't make any money on them. It makes the most money (still) from getting manufacturers to put Windows in their boxes. Microsoft isn't a consumer choice, whereas Apple is.
