Default Read-only PDF files?

My commercial printer used to send newsletter page proofs to me by fax. Now we have just started working with PDF files, which provide high-quality proofs.

I read and print these files with Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0. However, I've noticed that Acrobat Reader doesn't seem to provide any way of saving these files to disk. It seems to be simply read 'em, print 'em, and then they are gone.

I also found that I can't forward these PDF files to my customer after checking the page proofs.

I'm new to using PDF files, so I would appreciate any suggestions or information, etc. Thanks much.
