FontBureau has announced Matthew Carter’s new display typeface, Rocky, intended for magazines or newspapers.
It is a modern style with the typical vertical emphasis (something like a Bodoni) but with latin serifs and details (triangular serifs, most obviously). There are several widths — including useful-looking compressed condensed versions — and weights that range from light to black. It has really lovely italics (to me they seem to have been designed especially for callouts). Carter drew the regular and bold weights, with italics; calligrapher Richard Lipton — designer of Sloop script and Arrus — drew the other styles. Roger Black has used Rocky in his redesign of the Rocky Mountain News. __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Last edited by ktinkel; 10-22-2008 at 10:19 AM. |
