Default Interesting fonts

The Greek Font Society offers a collection of free fonts, mainly for use in setting Greek, but several of the families include latin alphabets as well.

The fonts are Opentype, with four standard text weights (regular, bold, italic, bold italic), and extensive character sets, including Greek and math characters (and latin in some of them, including NeoHellenic.

I could quibble about some of the letter forms, but they look pretty good. And it is rare to find a set of text families for free. There is even a set designed for low resolution (not sure that means web, though). Worth a look.
