I need some help, and I hope someone here can advise me.
My state periodically adopts the International Code Council series of building codes, which offers a new edition every three years. The series includes a building code [commercial], a residential code, a mechanical code, a plumbing code, an energy code, and an existing buildings code. When the state adopts them, as with all states we adopt the master codes with state amendments. Some states, such as New York, contract with the ICC to print New York state specific editions of ALL the code books, with the state changes typeset into the book. For inexplicable reasons, my state only has the ICC print state-specific versions of the International Building Code and the International Residential Code. We don't get state versions of the other books, which often leads to errors when someone forgets to look at the state amendments when researching an issue. We will be adopting the 2021 master codes as of October of this year. As I did in 2016, I hope to create my own versions of the plumbing, mechanical, energy, and existing buildings codes by reproducing the originals in Word and then making the required edits. I can do that -- I've gone through the process once already. My issue is that I haven't been able to figure out how to replicate the double vertical line in the margins that is used to flag the state changes. It's NOT the standard double-line border that's built into Word. If someone can teach me how to do a custom double line border, I'd appreciate it. It looks like this: Any suggestions will be appreciated. Note that I need to be able to do it in either the left or the right margin. |
