Default iPad Mini won't show movies

Well this is weird. I've got one of the original iPad Mini tablets. Suddenly, as of a day or three ago, it won't show movies. Not from Netflix, not from Amazon Prime, not even from Google videos/YouTube.

There's been no iOS update ... they stopped updating this thing some time ago. It's still on 9 point something and tells me it's got nothin' if I ask it to check for updates.

It's certainly not the internet connection speed; SpeedTest gave me > 25mbps the other night when I checked it, and I was able to play movies over the same wifi connection on both the Mac Air and a recently updated iPhone 5.

Apple's shoving me toward a new iPad, is that the deal?
