Do you use forum software on your site or a site you take care of? If so, which software package or packages do you use?

I use SMF for my site. http://www.simplemachines.org/

Had very little trouble with it, and very easy to use. Loads of add-ons plug-ins and themes

Also added a mod to SMF called tinyportal and that gives me a integrated content management system. http://www.tinyportal.net

Is there any add-on (or other means) of showing threaded messages? On every SMF site I have seen, there is none, and it can become difficult to navigate long threads.

Otherwise, I would agree that SMF is a good forum system.

Not that I'm aware of, although I now some have added a hack to achieve the threaded view. Also not sure if the latest version of SMF 2 will have this feature when it's released.

I don't miss it myself and always have linear view enabled even on here.

One good thing with SMF is when you're typing a reply you can scroll down the messages and quote from a post or even multi quote as you type.

I usually opt for linear if the threading is poorly implemented, but I do appreciate good threading — like what good old CompuServe had. (It also linked replies to users, so the poster of a message could be notified of replies.)

Have you used the MultiQuote here?
