Norton used to have threading as an option, as here, and while it does not have live message numbers each message has a live link to it appearing as the word Permalink which contains the URL to that message.

But it does not show the To name in a message and in Unthreaded view no way for anyone to know who a reply was intended for. That used to apply to Windows Support Forum out on the web after MS left CIS and with VAOS/Virtual Access OLR I could read the thread structure and visibly reply to someone but since no one else used threading it did not help reduce confusion and shouting!

Norton does have @name for Gurus and Staff but not between ordinary users.

So there's no shortage of forum software so far as I see it with this, for me, as the most useful.

Do most of use the threaded option in Display Options.

Oh well, CompuServe's .gif format lives on in surprising places!
I use threaded mode here and it's set as the default.

Most of the vBulletin sites I use have threading turned off, which drives me crazy in a busy forum I use (and am a mod in) because some of the most prolific posters don't quote the post they're replying to.
