Question on Scanning to TIFF
Question on Scanning to TIFF:
I have an HP Photosmart C-4480 All-in-One Color Printer/Scanner/Copier that I acquired in July 2008. When I try to scan something textual with pictures into TIFF (for archival purposes), the screen display and print output are not at all clear and the text is almost unreadable. When I scan the same material to PDF or JPG, everything looks fine. I e-mailed HP Total Care (overseas?) about this and they replied: “I would like to inform you that TIFF format is used for email purpose and from TIFF format it does not print clearly so I would suggest you to always print from jpg format it provide you a clear printout.” What gives? Am I doing something wrong here? Also, I understand that TIFF and PDF are both “lossless” (as opposed to “lossy” for JPG). So, why not just go with PDF instead of TIFF? File size is much less. Or am I missing something serious here? Thanks. |
