Default Help stamp out video

People keep wanting me to look at videos. Everyone has a camera that takes videos, but the finished product is almost always very small, blurred, juddery, and I don't have sound here anyway. Still pictures that are of reasonable size and good quality suit me much more.

But many photo cameras these days, even of the point-and-shoot variety, are capable of shooting high-definition video - and more and more video hosting sites support HD video as well. Maybe you're looking at the wrong sites.

Some things simple cannot be communicated in a still photograph. I shot quite a bit of video (non-HD) in North Korea - totally unprepared for it but feeling I had no choice if I wanted to communicate what I was experiencing. I'm now working on editing what I have - a time-consuming but fun learning experience.

So you're saying we should stamp out people who post bad videos, not videos in general? ;-)

In a way this is much the same thing that happened when people first got hold of music recording software and everybody became record producers overnight.
But with added pictures.
Just give them some time to practice.

You mean stamp out the people or stamp out the bad videos?

I'll vote for the former.

Both?

Though other than the gui residue, taking care of the former will take care of the latter.

Richard

I know what you mean, but have a look at this:

This guy (Vincent LaForet) shot this video sequence on a Canon 5d MKII. A high-end camera, sure, but it *is* primarily a stills camera.

As an art form I agree it is good. Though on my PC it is slow to load and jerky.

And if the video is a talking head, or piece to camera, I would much rather have text to read so I can get the sense of it quickly and decide whether or not to read the words.

I now read that they have difficulty finding good people to serve on juries because we all go to the internet to read stuff instead of engaging in conversation, listening to the other peoples point of view, making up our own mind. Perhaps we should stamp out the Internet?
