There was an interesting article on advertising and social media in The Washington Post on Friday:
"In May, a handful of advertisers, including the British division of Nissan, threatened to stop advertising on Facebook after their ads appeared on pages promoting rape and violence against women." While this is not really a laughing matter, I did have to laugh at this: "After a temporary boycott by some advertisers, the social network said it would review its users’ pages to determine whether they are “ad safe” for advertisers. Those identified as not “ad safe” will no longer receive advertising, the company said." It appears that if one is not already using some sort of browser-based ad-blocker add-on, perhaps adding ad-inappropriate keywords or phrases (Alexander Pope's "The Rape of the Lock" anyone?) on one's pages whether visible, hidden text (white on white), meta tag keywords might also function as an ad-blocker?
