I have been looking for ad and Flash blocking software for Safari, without too much success. That is, there are several, including some that also run on Firefox et al, but none of them worked for me, who knows why.
But yesterday I stumbled upon PithHelmet, and it seems to be doing exactly what I want with no customization. (In fact, I wish it would work with Firefox; the last update to AdBlocker has messed me up, and figuring out how to change the filters has proved tedious.) Anyway, PithHelmet is blocking all Flash (giving me a symbol that I can click to enable a particular Flash) and all ads, so far. (I need to go over to CompuServe and see if works there, but it works at the Shockwave game site, which is a miracle — hard to discern the wheat from the chaff there!) It puts a pith helmet symbol in the menu bar. From there you can control it — change filters, look at anything useful in the software, disable it temporarily, and more. You can download it and try it out, and then send the programmer, Mike Solomon, ten bucks. Very reasonable. __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |
