ACD just announced the release of a new version Canvas. The main improvements include:
1. Broader support of a variety of file formats, and improved support for data types such as CGM Data and Seismic data. 2. Canvas Print Driver (Windows only). This is print driver that appears just like any other printer in Windows. When you print to this driver, it creates a Canvas document. Same idea as printing to an Acrobat file, except a Canvas document is a lot more editable. 3. Secure sharing of PDF documents. Canvas X’s PDF export supports secure encryption and password protection. This gives you control of whether or not documents can be viewed, edited, or printed. 4. ActiveX Control Support. (Windows only). 5. Markup tools, such as Markup Pen, Mark-up Highlighter, Circle Redline, and Rectangle Redline tools to indicate revisions and add comments 6. Trim to Path command. "Unlike a traditional clipping path, you are not left with an image and vector object, but rather a single image that is inside the path. This is especially advantageous for beginners since no rendering or cropping is involved." Compared to past upgrades, this is a very short list. So I'm wondering if this is like other products that get bought by another company, and then every upgrade after that is only a few features. But the bottom line is whether the upgrade is worth it for you, assuming you own Canvas. Or, if you don't, whether all the features are worth it. http://www.deneba.com/ BTW, after Canvas X arrived, I looked around to see of DenebaCAD was still being sold. I didn't see it. So I started reading some of the messages in the DenebaCAD support area, and I got the impression that it never made the transition to OS X, and maybe this led to it finally being dropped. |
