WordPress is sponsoring the Sandbox Design Competition.

The objective is to create your own WordPress skin. Provided are the essential elements, a collection of dummy (modifiable) .php files, and a CSS file.

There are rules as well as pragmatic guidelines, a forum for discussing problems and achievements, and — in the end (assuming you want to compete), cash prizes for the best design. You can explore all that at the site linked to above.

I have been struggling to customize WordPress for months (off and on), so I have downloaded the Sandbox theme to see if it is easier than trying to work with someone else’s code.
