I'm glad to hear that the forum is going public shortly; that was behind my original question, as I hadn't forgotten today's date. One of my concerns is that translators will be enjoined (in the not too distant future) to learn at least the elements of typography. This is contained in prEN 15038, which is a draft European standard for 'Translation services—service requirements', whose final text will come out not later than next year. Translators are authors, and they will be expected to know at least how to write their target languages in the right way, including all the accents etc., and how tob punctuate them. A Finnish translator that gave a paper to the FIT conference in Vancouver in 2002 might be the inspirer of the 'orthotypography' requirement in the draft standard, but he has wide support, including that of Michael |
