marjolein: Neither. But my PC monitor (cheapo 22" flatscreen) and my old Dell laptop's screen pretty much agree with each other and with how photos look on my camera and my image tank. Without doing a precise comparison, all definitely have the same feel.
That's good...I wonder if there might be a default monitor profile being applied (check the Color Management tab off the display properties) and many of those are relatively decent...

I think that if the macbook is set to a gamma of 1.8, that's exactly what you'd see. There was an interesting discussion on the ColorSync User's list today about browsers and color management:

"If the images are untagged, Safari uses the display profile as the assumption of the color space."

and:

"Safari is going to either use embedded sRGB profiles or assume the non tagged or embedded images to use your monitor profile as source (colours) profile. So on other's systems it will look different depending on their default set up."

And then someone mentioned that Firefox 3 has a plug-in for color management but he couldn't get it to work and someone then suggested the following--not sure if this will work on the pc side but it does on the mac side:

"Type

about:config

in the adressfield

Afterwards type

gfx.c

in the searchfield

than change in the two lines

gfx.color_management.display_profile
and
gfx.color_management.enabled
the value to
true

Restart Firefox.

Afterwards you can check the differences in behaviour with this page:

Sorry, it's in german."
