My sister uses (or at least used to) yousendit and it worked well for her. I'll have to ask her if she's still using it...

Unlinking did not solve the problem for long. One careless mouse click on an old link to a onedrive file and OneDrve was back up and running in all its bad old ways. No warning message "Did you really want to re-link OneDrive?". It just relinked it.

I have now uninstalled OneDrive and deleted anything that looks like a OneDrive link. Hopefully that will do the trick but I would not be surprised if it reinstalls itself.

Definitely something to check for after Windows updates!

You might also take a browse in whatever Win11 now calls Task Scheduler (in Win7: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler) to see if there are any OneDrive entries there that you might want to set to "disabled" (or sometimes "enabled" depending on the wording...'-}}). Also check the Windows Store (ugh!) and Group Policy.

I did a quick search to see if I could find any info on what OneDrive entries might be found in Task Scheduler or elsewhere and stumbled across:

1. Useful info on behind the scenes OneDrive crap -- for example, in Group Policy--and also take a look at the "Related Tutorials" section at the bottom of the page

2. Another link on OneDrive auto-updating which interestingly enough is controlled via a scheduled task

Fingers cross the above proves useful...

Good stuff there. I checked Task Scheduler and found three entries, all calling on the same program to do their thing:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDriveStandalo neUpdater.exe

I suspect you could simply rename or delete that puppy to chill OneDrive's jets.

Where does one find Task Scheduler?

In Win10, you can press the Windows key then start to type Task Scheduler. It'll show you Task Manager as an option first, but as you type more of the name, Task Scheduler will pop to the top.

Or look under Windows Administrative Tools in the program list.

I'm not fluent enough in Win11 to say exactly how you'd get there in that system.

{later} Offhand, anyway. But I checked, and it works pretty much the same way there.

Oh good!!! I'm glad you found is helpful...

It looked fairly useful to me also but I had no way to test the info. I'm not surprised you found stuff in Task Scheduler because more and more developers stash stuff in TS which is one reason I find AutoRuns to be so useful--specifically the Logon tab which shows everything that loads at boot and the Scheduled Tasks tab which shows crap hiding in the background ready to do stuff behind your back. The tricky bit with Task Scheduler itself is recognizing which option needs to be chosen to stop whatever you want to stop because sometimes "disable" does the stopping and sometimes "enable" does the stopping as it depends on how things are worded so a close reading is needed--I think Microsoft deliberately makes things confusing...

The info on where to look in the Group Policy is also useful because stuff can be buried deeply there and hard to find so a little navigation help is good...
