steve: VMWare, for years and years.
I thought that was it but wasn't sure.

I give a passing thought every now and again and then I get a headache which is weird because I consider myself moderately knowledgeable and proficient with technical stuff but, there is something about vm'ing that does odd things to my brain...'-}}}

>>If I turned ON the external drive with Gump on it, the card would boot the PC from it. Chawklits! Turn it off and it'd boot plain old Win31, or NT or whatever I was using at the time.

VERY clever! It's been eons since I've thought about scsi stuff...

Perfectly understandable. Like the first time you set one up and it tells you "Now we'll format your hard drive" ... and you have to decide what to do first, hit the Off switch or change your underware. ;-)

But it can be a real blessing when you need/want to install new OS versions or software that you don't quite trust, or that conflicts with the older version that you might decide you like better than the new one. It's also pretty cool to be able to take several different "computers" with you when you travel, all on one laptop. In the end, these "machines" are just sets of files (plus the VM software that knows how to run them.)

Oh, and Bo ... yeah, that's the stuff! Odd how the paperless office goes through FAR more paper than the old lo-tech "paper wasting" one.

LOL!!!

I do have Windows Virtual PC running XPMode but that is--pretty sure of this--in no way comparable to something like VMWare which is much more sophisticated than Microsoft's crap which, at this point, I use just to run Quicken 4 for Windows once a month. I should just install Quicken 11 (I think that's what I bought via ebay many eons ago when I had my first Win7 system custom built but have never installed) and be done with XPMode but...I never seem to get around to doing it...'-}}

I hear round tooits are soon to be an endangered species. You should do something about that sooner rather than later.

It's pretty unlikely at this point...not worth the effort...
