Default Jarte?

https://www.jarte.com/

Has anyone heard of it -- or, better yet, tried working with it?

I'm writing about free and low-cost office suites for home offices. Jarte isn't a suite, it's only a word processor, but it might (or might not) be a choice for someone who only needs a word processor. I can't decide whether or not to even mention it.

Any thoughts?

Never heard of that one. Abiword might be of interest. It can be extended with plugins too. http://www.abisource.com/

I started to look into Abiword. Apparently Abiword has not been offered for Windows for several years.

AbiWord: System Requirements Microsoft Windows and macOS are no longer supported.
Due to very limited resources, we can only provide source code. Building is only tested on Linux, and requires Gtk3

Too bad -- it looked interesting

Yes...I've been using Jarte for a number of years--since Microsoft screwed up Wordpad. It works well for me although I don't use it everyday. I'm using version 4.5 which I suspect is probably pretty old...'-}}

Notepad++ is often recommended but I didn't care for it and went looking for something else stumbling across Jarte. If memory serves, I found Jarte more straightforward to use than Notepad++...

To be fair, Notepad++ is a text editor, not a word processor. Different animal altogether.

I wasn't looking for a wp when I tried Notepad++ but something to replace WordPad as a quickie text tool--something a bit more sophisticated and NotePad which I use ALL THE TIME but not as sophisticated as WordPerfect...

As I noted (no pun intended...'-}}), it's been too long since I tried Notepad++ so I might well like it now but...Jarte works nicely so I'm not in the market...'-}}

I don't know how old version 4.5 is, but the current version is 6.2 -- and they have now made the full version free for personal use.

Right, but in context, a WP was what Woody was after.

IAC, if you didn't like NP++ then, you probably wouldn't like it now either. I don't think it's changed much (other than feature additions) in years.

I'm using the free version and I have never run across any limitations. I don't think I ever knew there was a paid version.

>>I don't know how old version 4.5 is

I had my first Win7/Pro system custom built (all my systems are custom built) in ummmm....late 2012 so it's in/around then that I installed Jarte for the first time. and I've never updated it--if it works, don't muck with it...'-}}

Well...duh!!!!

I completely missed that! I just saw "Jarte" and "anyone use" and went from there...'-}}

>>then, you probably wouldn't like it now either

What I remember is that Notepad++ was more than I wanted/needed. It did all sorts of nifty things but, I didn't need the nifty...just the basic and the nifty got in the way of the basic. Jarte did the basic things I've needed nicely, cleanly--you know, copy/paste text, a bit of formatting here and there, a number of different file types available for opening/saving (I use it for rtf's which I use for a few special files saved as different file types to make sure I can always access the data), etc..

I think of Jarte as a more sophisticated Microsoft NotePad without the annoyance of that !*(#$!&* ribbon in WordPad...'-}}
