PaintShop Pro?

I have received an offer to get PaintShop Pro 2022 for what appears to be a decent price. Does anyone use PaintShop Pro? I don't have Photoshop -- is PaintShop Pro a viable alternative for those of us in the unwashed masses who decline to rent software?

I've never used it but I've always heard good things about it. I think $99 is not an unreasonable price...

I am using Paint Shop Pro 7 and have been for the last 20 odd years. Does everything I want interms of cropping, resizing, converting to jpeg and png etc. But my needs are simple. I do not use complicated filters or try to air brush changes to photos.

Your adblocker has nothing to do with this. Most every link one picks up online will have some tracking-crap associated with it. Below is the link in your post stripped of the bits that make the link go live so you can see it better. Everything from the bolded/italicized "?skuID" to the end of the link is trackingcrap and not in the least bit needed to actually display the web page in question.

$99 seems to be the standard price on Amazon for PSP 2022 (as a download). US only, and may the lord have mercy on you if you're on dialup, for:

Unless you're a PhotoShop user, past or present, I'd discount any of the reviews by people who are/were PhotoShop users. It's *always* been the case, since the CorelDraw 3 days or earlier, that anyone weaned on Adobe software hated having to work in Corel's equivalent programs. And vice versa.

Similarly, people who used pre-Corel versions of PaintShop Pro tend to be unhappy with the Corel product. Partly, I think, because it's quite different, partly because it's become way bigger and slower. That'd be my excuse. I generally only need to fairly basic image editing and want something that loads and lets me do my thing quickly. PSP now is, I suspect, a worthy alternative to PhotoShop, but if I have to wait, wait, wait for it and a lot of features I don't need to load, I'll pass. BUT that's no to knock the product; just to say that it and I aren't a good fit.

For some reason, I received an offer to upgrade to PaintShop Pro 2022 Ultimate for just $39. I don't know how that happened, since Corel doesn't seem to have an account linked to my e-mail address or a record of any previous purchase, but they were happy to accept my $39 and allow me to download the program -- along with several related applications and add-ins. I'm only allowed to install it on two machines, though, so I'll need to consider whether I want the second copy on my back-up desktop machine or on one of my two laptops.

I have no doubt there will be a learning curve but I think (and hope) it will be worth it. I expect to be doing more book covers, and Microsoft Paint just isn't getting the job done for me.

Barrie, years ago I had a demo version of PSP 7, back when the world was happy running Windows XP. That copy seems to have gone away as a result of changes to both computer and operating system, and I never got very deep into it other than using it to adjust the lighting and highlights on close-up photos of objects. It worked well for that, and one might hope that a decade later it has only gotten better.

However much better or static it's gotten, it's certain that it'll kick MS Paint's nethers. Hard.

The one thing I love about most (though not all) of Microsoft's accessories is the short learning curve. It takes very little time to learn how lame they are. :-)
