Default Critique Health Board Logo, Please

My girlfriend is entering her logo into a contest, so I thought I would get some feedback. The mandatory elements (colors and moral principles) make it a difficult project, but below is what she has so far. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Color is a bit boring but overall it's a decent looking logo. Are the color choices significant to the organization? If not, I probably change the brown to either another color or perhaps a lighter shade and the blue to perhaps a shade of green which would require a different color for the buffalo (green buffalo definitely doesn't work...'-}}) or perhaps a lighter shade of blue and which might also muck up the choice of maroon.

I personally find the highlighting of "prayer" a bit off-putting but that's just me. I think that the fact that it's for a health board, that highlighting "compassion" and "respect" might be more appropriate although it might require the "twisting" of those terms so that they are in the position the currently highlighted terms are.

Thank you, Terrie. The color palate was restricting (she had to incorporate traditional Great Plains colors). I agree about the "prayer" (neither of us are religious, by the way). I don't think she did it deliberately other than perhaps due to a spacial issue. I believe she submitted it as-is. If the health board wanted the words swapped around, it shouldn't be too hard and such an element shouldn't hurt the design so much that would make it less superior to other competing logos.

Thanks again, Terrie.

I thought that might be the case although there are shades of those colors which might offer a bit of a brighter approach. If she wins perhaps she could discuss playing around with that...

Definitely fairly straightforward to fiddle with where the words are...

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she wins...do keep us posted...
