Default BitFonter 3 (Mac, Windows)

FontLab has released BitFonter 3 for Mac OS X and (this is new) Windows.

It lets you convert scanned artwork, digital photos, and bitmap fonts into OpenType format (with FontLab). You can also use it to create crisp bitmap fonts for buttons or small-screen devices, or for use in Flash.

But the most interesting feature is the ability to create fonts with color, texture, and transparency. (Cannot figure out how these can be fonts that you can type with, but the FontLab announcement does refer to the results as fonts. Maybe someone who has used this function can comment.)

The company also claims a streamlined user interface, faster and more precise image manipulation, new and improved tools, and easier, faster, and more consistent spacing and kerning.

$499 for either version; $99 to update from BitFonter 1 or 2.
