Phil Martin, type designer, graphic artist, columnist, entertainer, entrepreneur, veteran, raconteur, and all-round character died October 4, 2005. He was 82.
I first discovered him years ago through his funny and opinionated columns in typesetting trade rags. He turned up on-line a few years ago, still funny, and his web site remains available (in January 2006; have no idea how long it will be there). There you can read his biography; listen to his singing; read some of his writings including the PDF version of Design for (a) Living, his autobiographical type industry history; view his slide shows; check out his type designs (including Heldustry, a sans version of Souvenir, and more, most of them in the 70s/80 tall x-height advertising text style); and generally poke around. Phil was a genuine old-fashioned character, and I am sorry he is gone. __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |
