Default UK Companies - Information on Websites

One of my clients has drawn my attention to a new requirement for the websites of UK limited companies. It has AFAIK always been a requirement to have details of the company's registration on its stationary, but now that requirement extends to websites. As from 1 January 2007:

Quote:
In addition, the company's business letters, order forms and websites have to include fuller particulars, i.e.
(a) the company's place of registration and the number with which it is registered,
(b) the address of its registered office,
(c) in the case of an investment company the fact that it is such a company, and
(d) in the case of a limited company exempt from the obligation to use the word "limited" as part of its name the fact that it is a limited company.
All these requirements apply whether the document is in hard copy or electronic or any other form.

It's also necessary to show the VAT Registration Number.

There's an article at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/12...il_regulation/
and the quote above comes from http://www.dti.gov.uk/files/file36201.doc

Did anyone else know about this?

Yes: I found out about it last year. It is a current hot topic of discussion in my trade body (the ISTC).

I discussed this very point at some length - from the potential fraud angle, on the FSB forum:

(PS It is 'stationery'!)

Discussed here too, last month, http://www.desktoppublishingforum.co...ead.php?t=3549

I seriously believe that those responsible in HMG for enacting this did not even think about identity theft/security.

All this information is supposed to be on all company emails, too.

Lois and Kelvyn

Thanks for referring me to the previous discussion. I'd checked in the Web sections but hadn't thought of looking in General Publishing Topics.

I knew that the Companies Act 1985 had been amended in that way to meet the requirements of an EC Directive some time ago, and the Companies Act 2006 merely tidies up something that was in various pieces of legislation before. The information about companies (and limited partnerships!) that has to be given on their Web sites is receiving attention now because it is given in one of the first parts of the new Act to be commenced (I bet some people here thought 'commence' couldn't be used passively!).
