Has anyone else had any trouble with the lates Firefox update for Windows? Firefox has never given me any grief before, but since the last update it hangs frequently (have not detected a pattern yet) and downloads won't complete. I have to use MSIE (horrors) to download anything. The firefox download window never appears and I am unable to tell what the heck is happening. All that appears at the download destination is a partial file - *.exe.part - and it appears that Firefox is still endlessly downloading but I can't be sure. When close the browser, Firefox the program disappears from Task Manager, but firefox.exe the process continues to run indefinitely (without responding) and has to be ended manually. Aaaargh. I keep checking for updates hoping someone else has had the same problem and they've posted a fix, but so far no joy. Any ideas? I could go back to a much older version of Firefox and it would update again but maybe it would work this time.... Thought I'd enquire here first, though.

I haven’t heard of any particular issue on any platform, but maybe someone else has. I have been having browser issues in general lately, but most seem to have more to do with servers or sites. Sometimes it takes forever to get responses, stuff like that. School’s out in many places — maybe the kiddies are breathing up all our air! <g> __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |

Yes, 1.5.0.4. It's really starting to drive me crazy. But in the back of my mind I'm wondering if something else is going on ... at the same time my instant messenger program started making some sort of call to Windows before starting up and I get a weird "no disk in drive error". But I just cancel out of it and all continues normally from that point. I'm ready to throw this computer out the window and start over. Well, almost. Sigh.

Finally, something really got my attention, so I ran Disk First Aid (the built-in troubleshooter and first line of defense on the Mac), just asking it to advise me about my boot disk. It gave up almost instantly and yelled at me in bold red type that it could not access the directory. Yikes. So I had to deal with it; and did. But boy was it messed up. Now if anything freezes or I have any symptom, I repair permissions (a Unix-y thing on modern Macs) and check Disk First Aid right away. Today, in fact, I had a small problem on that same boot drive. In fact, I am beginning to wonder about the drive itself. It is the original internal that came with this Mac; I should check its RAM. Now where is that CD? Sigh. Good luck with your computer. Hope you don’t have to pitch it. :: __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |
