Default Video Editing Apps

Last year I asked here for info about blogs and received enough to really keep me busy and to get something going. I wound up with WordPress and Joomla and was really able to get into it. Thanks to all!

Now I am looking for an inexpensive application (i.e. something that works on a SS retirement budget) that will let me combine stills with video and let me add a music soundtrack. I saw something really nice on a Mac a couple years ago but the guy who had it has since moved away.

I want the ability to create a bit of motion on the stills (pan very slowly, zoom in or out, etc.) and intersperse them with digital video.

Any suggestions?

I don't even know what kind of application is called...

I'm using WinXP, BTW.
