Default changing default browser in Elements 3.0

When I look at images I saved on my hd,as soon as I click on that image (jpg) the Microsoft Picture & Fax viewer automatically opens the image. I like it because I can copy images I want to edit to another directory. I just installed Photoshop Elements 3.0 and it took over for Microsoft and became the default browser. How can I change the default browser back to Microsoft yet use Elements toi do everything else ?

I don't see how to do it in preferences. A friend of mine said that Elements asks you if you want Elements to be default browser but it never happened to me and I uninstalled and installed 3X.

You do this in Windows itself. Right click on the file, and the menu appears, listing a few programs that might open it. Choose Open With ... even if your chosen application appears. You can now browse to find the viewer program (you will need to know what the exe file name is, and find it ... probably in C:/program files.)

Just make sure to check the box that says "open with this program all the time" (or something like that) and it will change the registry to make your jpgs always open that way. You have to repeat with a gif and any other format you want to change over.

There is more than one way to do this, and it might depend on your version of Windows. But you might want to first see if you can launch Microsoft Picture & Fax viewer from the Start menu, and see if it has an option menu where you can set a bunch of file associations at once.

Or, from the Control Panel, you can pick Folder Options|FileTypes and highlight a file type you want to change. The click Change and pick the program you want to associate with it.

Or, you can do this when you have a file you want to open. Hold down your Shift key and right click on the file you want to open. Select "Open With." Pick "Choose Program." Scroll down the list until you see the Picture and Fax viewer. If it is there, click the box that says "Always use this program to open..." Then click on the program name.
