I am right this minute using Shiira 1.2.1 from Japan, an open source universal binary Mac browser the makers say will be better than and more useful than Safari.
Shiira appears to function almost exactly like Safari right now, especially in being unable to make full use of the rich text message editor like the one here in vBulletin. And the bottom of the Get Posts dropdown goes behind the windows below. (That makes three Konquerer-based Mac browsers with these failings: Safari, OmniWeb, and now Shiira — I guess they are built into the engine.) Shiira’s font default is 16 (like MSIE), which is much too large for me. I set it back to 12, and now pages look about the way they look in Safari and Firefox. (These pages look the same, regardless.) It has alternate themes and buttons, along with a tutorial on how to make your own. I like a couple of the sets shown, actually. There is also a support forum (based on vB, like this one) with moderate activity. Anyway, interesting. Whether we need more browsers, I dunno. But this one looks capable enough and the developers look serious enough that it may endure. __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |
