Default Burns' Night

OK, so what did you do then?

We went to neighbours to eat the haggis, and it was absolutely lovely. I can't drink whisky, but had sake instead. Haggis, (pars)nips, mashed potatoes, then raspberries with home-made ice cream. I haven't got a kilt, so decided to wear my Flintstone costume!

I find there's something strangely romantic about haggis, but I can't quite put my finger on why. OK, so it's bits of the animal that you'd not normally eat (at least, not sober) yet when mixed with cereals and herbs it's really delicious and not at all obnoxious. My wife, who's pretty vegetarian, adores the stuff: there's something along the lines of if you say you have the right to kill an animal for food, you have a duty to make sure you don't waste it.

Happy Burns' night everyone: go easy on the malt, and the verses. Oh, and don't even consider trying a Scottish accent unless you're Scots - far too embarrassing!
