Aegis Secure Key 3.0 is an encrypted USB drive that's as wide as my thumb and as long as my index finger. Sooo, if you ever want to know how wide my thumb etc. just by one. And after you do your first major file transfer (such as a backup) be sure to have a potholder ready because the drive will be too hot to handle.
So I asked tech support if this is normal, and he asked me if the drive slowed down, because it's supposed to do that to control heat. And I said, I have no way of knowing, why don't you just tell me if it's normal to get too hot to handle. He said "yes" and then explained that it's okay that this happens. And who am I to argue with tech support. <har har> So was I worried about the heat in future backups. Not really. The heavy lifting was done. But it is interesting to note that complaints about heat didn't start until 3.0. So, this device has tiny buttons on it to enter the pass word. But the good news is that button pushing can be done BEFORE it goes into the USB port. It has its own battery. So first I have to wake it up. Then push the buttons, which have very positive actions. There is no guessing whether or not I succeeded in pushing them. Then it unlocks, and I breathe a sigh of relief. The device comes with a sheath, and there is a place to add a key ring. And so far the sheath has not slipped off when I didn't want it to. Now, I must confess I bought this in December 2019 but neglected to post. The size I got was 480 gig. I paid $339. I bought if to replace a lost IronKey thumb drive. The idea of buttons made me feel more secure than using the computer keyboard to type in the code. Here's what it looks like |
