Catchy title, isn't it. It's about paying for usage. See it here: http://www.petapixel.com/2012/01/10/...h-is-not-free/

Heh! And that's not even taking into account the cost of the years of experience the photographer brings to the shoot.

Or of the BMW he drove to the shoot. Both get a mention in the comments, which go a long way to illustrate what we're up against, trying to make a living by producing and selling intellectual property. And serve as a reminder that irony is not only wasted on the literal-minded, it totally monkeywrenches the discourse. __________________ Steve Rindsberg ==================== www.pptfaq.com www.pptools.com and stuff |

Price of gas? I think he forgot to figure the cost of the car...
Also, value doe not equal cost. Faulty reasoning. I also like the comment by 'Alex': Quote:

Only thing that bothers me about the equation is that the guy is only shooting one picture per camera. Seems to be a bit of a waste.

Indeed. Most professionals tend to be a little more efficient that that (except for mishaps such as equipment dropping overboard and such, of course).

And he didn't allow for his wages, including the time taken to do the travelling, hanging around waiting for the sun to set, photoshopping etc.

Even then.
When I was a younger man, I worked on a newspaper in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, and there was a flood to the point where some houses (1.5 story ones) were only showing the top 5 or 6 feet of their peaks. A photographer was in a rowboat taking pix, and dropped a lens into the water. He noted the location by counting houses, and went about his business. When waters receded a week or so later, he went to the location, found the lens, and his father, who did camera repairs, was able to fix it. |

LOL! Of course that only works when you can be reasonably sure the water will not be there in the forseable future.
I never lost a lens, but did lose a lens cap - when inadvertently, sneakily, the line that fastens it to the camera had come lose, and I let go of it as usual... with my camera already in position over the railing, above the sea. Grrr. And in VietNam. No chance in a hundred lifetimes to find that one back! Hope the fish had fun with it! ![]() __________________ Marjolein Katsma ![]() Occasionally I am also connecting online dots... and sometimes you can follow me on Marjolein's Travel Blog |

I used to cut a hole in my lens cap so I wouldn't have to take it off.
