Posting this for the "other half". He is still using Word 97. He hasn't changed anything within the program and suddenly his WordStar filters aren't working. This is a Big Problem because he has zillions of vintage WordStar files that he needs to dip into occasionally. When I first found the WS converters for him (year? ago) I suggested that he convert the whole lot to Word format ASAP, but this never happened ... and now here we are with a crisis. Any ideas? Could the switch to XP or XP SP2 have done it? I'm not exactly sure when it stopped working.

I haven't heard of any other synchronous occurences of this "anti-WordStar virus." I do know that Office 2003 dropped the WordStar import filter, and the filter for XP/2002 (Win) has become very hard to find.
The gurus at wopr.com have been helpful to me on obscure topics like this. |

OK, I'm ignorant - what (or who <g>) is wopr.com?

The MS newsgroups are a great resource for this kind of thing and some of the Word people are first rate:
There's a web face to the newsgroup: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx or you can use a newsreader on msnews.microsoft.com __________________ Steve Rindsberg ==================== www.pptfaq.com www.pptools.com and stuff |

Thanks, Lois! Looks like there may not be any newer MS converters than the ones we've got ... but there are a number of other options to investigate, including some sort of conversion utility that supposedly came in the WS 7 box. Which we may or may not still have lying around, but it's worth going on a quick 'treasure hunt'.

WOPR is "Woody's Office (somethingorother)," a set of addins for MS Office. They have a "Lounge" with a board for Word. They've been very helpful to me there.
"Woody" ?Leonhard is another name from the "old days" on CIS. The site is run mostly by other folks, now. |
