That he is, no doubt. And very smart/knowledgeable.
And some of the perceived curmudgeonliness was just his sense of humor. He was a master at saying the most outrageous stuff, utterly deadpan. If you didn't work out that it was a joke, too bad for you. If you didn't get it and thought he was a jerk as a result, too bad for you again. He really didn't worry much what other folks thought of him.
I liked him online right away and liked him more when we met and worked together; he used to be one of the tech help mainstays at Rick Altman's CorelWorld and VenturaWorld conferences.
