It's the first thing I do on any system I'm tweaking. It used to take me a long time to mod the settings but, then a couple of systems ago, I discovered that I could copy saved .theme files from one system to another and that saved me loads of time as the copied theme required very little tweaking--mostly due to monitor res differences and so I now have laptop originating themes and desktop originating themes saved and copy the appropriate one.

The slightly tricky bit on a new system is that you have to make a first tweak to the (new) system so that the system creates the appropriate subdir for themes to be saved and then you can copy the other system theme to the appropriate location and choose it for the system...
