Default Critique Product Logo

Please critique my logo concepts for a frame hanging product (mascot to come). The second version just includes a tagline. The hardware allows users to hang frames and other wall hangings straight in a few easy steps. The name is admittedly long, but the inventor has to keep it (We emphasize "Genie" as an abbreviation). I'm starting to think I should use the boxy "1-2-3" with the top font, to imply picture frames. There might also be restrictions on how to stylize the name (not de-emphasizing "1-2-3" too much).

I appreciate the feedback!

Of the existing samples, I prefer the 2nd from the top--with the tagline--but the 1st one is ok also. I like the "g" of the font in the first 2 samples and I strongly dislike the "g" in the 3rd sample while the "g" in the 4th sample is ok but...a bit seems to draw too much attention to itself although that may be what you are looking for.

With respect to the "1,2,3", I think you may be on to something with using the squared numbers rather than the rounded ones but there's a certain elegance (?) to the way you've place the rounded "1,2,3" that's not present with the squared "1,2,3"...

Thanks, Terrie! I posted this in a couple Facebook design groups and got so many varying responses, but it seems the majority prefer #1 or #2 and suggest trying it with the boxed 1-2-3. The one downside I see to the boxed numbers is they aren't as smooth and clean as the "genie" font, but maybe the contrast could complement it.

I'm still debating whether I like how the tagline fits. It won't actually be on the package like that, as he wants it really big on the package, separate from the logo. I just thought it would be nice to design it into the logo for use in banners or web graphics.

Although I love mid century design, which I channel in these logos, I'm starting to conclude #4 might be too retro. It was based on a sketch I vectorized. I like it, but it might be ideal to be both a little retro and a little modern, if that makes sense.

The bowled 'g' in #1/#2 is entirely custom, while the 'g' in #3 is directly from the 'genie' font I just slightly tweaked. The product inventor is hesitant about using that older style bowled 'g', worrying if young people will easily interpret it, but I just felt I really wanted that style to anchor the name, front and center, and give it a slight retro feel. I disagree that young people won't get it. Surely we all remember Google's former logo of the not-too-distant past.

Here's a circles vs. boxes comparison.

Instead of "You become a picture hanging pro", I'd suggest "Be a picture hanging pro"

This may not be part of your decision, though, I realize.

Thank you, Steve! An old sales veteran suggested the current tagline and the inventor loves it. I think he's sold on the fact it has "You" in the phrase, which speaks directly to the consumer. But honestly, I really like your condensed version, possibly retaining "Become" instead of "Be," so I will absolutely pitch your idea to him. Any thoughts on the logo styles?

in final letter "e" on the first three makes me think of Pacman. The fourth version of "genie" has a font that looks the most genie-like to me.

Also, even though I like the separation of "pic" and "Genie" by using different fonts, I think "pic" should not be played down so much. It is part of the name, and no less important because pictures are what the customer has to deal with

I find that perfectly ridiculous but then, that's just me...'-}}

Can you drop down the "2" in the squared version just a tad--similar to the circled version.

I like Steve's suggestion of "Be a picture hanging pro" but I think "Become" would work too...

I like "Be" better. Shorter, punchier and to me it seems more positive. You'll BE a picture handing pro, vs You'll become one (but maybe screw some stuff up on your way there).

But "Become" works too.

I definitely prefer the first two. Gut reaction, no logic whatever.
