Critique Yoga Studio Logo

I have two main logos that I'm about to submit to the client, based on our discussion of what she wants for rebranding her studio. I like them, but I don't love them. I like the colors, but the lotus doesn't have a lot of "meat" (it's rather thin), might not work in small-scale, and is similar to stock yoga art you find on Google. The mudra hands are simple and would scale well. I wish they could be more stylized, but I'm afraid of losing their readability.

It wasn't until I looked at the rightmost image (combo of logos) that I realized that leftmost image was mudra hands but that may be due to the angle of the shot. That said, I liked that design a lot and non-embossed it's quite clear.

I like all the designs--the lotus is indeed simple but I like it. I like all the colors except the red version and I think the cyan lotus version is a bit bland...

1 Hands: I had the same problem Terrie had. With the first image I could did not perceive hands. In the final image the red one is the more graceful than the one above it, but it doesn't give me a sense wellness. It looks forced, like an idea that doesn't actually translate well. What about leaving the curve of the ying-yang alone, removing the dots, and putting in two representations such as heaven and earth. Maybe as sky and land (earth). I'm thinking the representations would fill each space, but for all I now this might not work at all.

2. Lotus. I think this one is great. I like the embossed one a lot. I like the one with the purple person and the chartreuse lotus. In the middle one the chartreuse person looks too weak. I also like the last one, but blue does not give me a sense of wellness. I don't know what to think about your concern that it looks too common. I'm not sure how people would respond. But it doesn't bother me.

I don't think the mudra versions work well. In one of them, the hands read as crab claws almost as much as they do as hands; in the other they're clearly hands but look at your own hands and try to replicate what's in the logo. In any case, a mudra is usually a one-handed affair, isn't it? The lotus, on the other hand, really appeals to me. It's graceful and reads immediately as a lotus. I'm partial to the non-color one, myself, but the client may have other reasons for choosing specific colors.

If the mudra is really important to you/the client/branding, you might possibly change the figure in the middle of the lotus to put one hand in its lap and maybe suggest the mudra somehow? I'm thinking that's too much of a stretch though.

Terrie, Andrew, and Steve, thank you for all the comprehensive comments! I really appreciate it.

My client has decided to go with the lotus, which I've warmed up to, so I'm glad to see the positive feedback of it on here. I was slightly concerned that it needs to be "beefed up" a tad, as most successful/memorable logos tend to have considerable line weight, at least from my gatherings.

I've attached the previous version (right column) with a slightly thicker version next to it (left column). I should probably be careful not to have the lotus overpower the figure, or the text for that matter. Does anyone have a strong preference between the two?

Dang it. Is the enlarged image showing up on a black background with transparency? Mine is, and it ruins the image.

Try double clicking on the black image -- worked for me just now.

I got the black on all your previous postings on this new topic and gave up the first time; then I found out by accident that a click would convert it to showing the actual image.

What on earth are you using to post these images? I don't know what my system (Windows 7) is using to read them but .....

I'm just clicking the "Attachments" paperclip icon above the message typing area, then selecting the files from my computer. What seems to be the matter?

What was the original file format on your computer?
