Stunning photography

I wasn't entirely sure where to put this since the photography is "enhanced", as you will see. Perhaps I don't get around much but I have not seen a site quite like this before.

We met this fellow and his wife in France; they were staying at the same chateau. We chatted with them quite a bit at breakfast but on completely different topics so I had no idea what I was going to find on his web site.

A bit like Andreas Gursky in scale of subject. Some images were very nice - but the user interface (Flash I assume) is dire: once you get into the galleries, you seem to be stuck going back and forth inside them.

Yep, he explains how to get around the site on one of the "about" pages.

Since I've actually been to Versailles I really enjoyed that one and now there are other places I want to visit. Those Aspen shots are breathtaking. (My other half might get vertigo on the Highlands summit!) In one of the Australia pages you can go up into the sky. There's also some cool techie info in his blog.

When will people learn that sticking to tried and treated nav. models is less frustrating for users? We don't want to read a user manual for every new site. There are lots of good scripts out there that work unobtrusively and intuitively.

FWIW, the instructions flashed on screen briefly when I clicked the first link that took me to a gallery.

With the emphasis on "briefly" ... too fast for me to read more than "something something ESC something.

I'm with you, Lois. If we wanted to play games or solve puzzles, we'd be at a game or puzzle site, not at this photographer's site. But we're there, so please don't make us play games and solve these silly UI puzzles.

Or perhaps the site owner feels that we must earn the privilege of viewing the photos and will value them all the more highly for having fought for the right to see them?

My feeling is that it's extremely annoying and having to read directions on how to access his images is more trouble than it's worth when you don't know the artist--the only reason I persevered is because of Franca's recommendation and if I'd just stumbled across the site, I would have left even more quickly...'-}}--I don't want to work that hard (or wait that long!) to see anyone's images...

The site features another pet peeve of mine. It resizes my browser window without even asking.
