Default Language rants, anyone?

Got a favorite thing to hate about modern English usage. Or abusage?

Go on, get it off your chest.

So, I despise what I call the heinous extraneous "so". The bit of excrement hanging off the beginning of the last sentence and that far too many people who should know better insist on doing.

OK. Your turn.

I'm not at all convinced that people who use that extraneous "So" know that it's wrong. Why should they know it's wrong if no one has ever told them?

My contribution: "irregardless"

Self-awareness is not one of the criteria.

Wrong is wrong.

Unless, I suppose, one is a believer in descriptive rather than prescriptive grammar, in which case any damn thing is ok, so long as enough people co-perpetrate.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that it's not wrong. I'm just suggesting that they really, honestly, "literally" (ugh! there's that word again) don't know it's wrong.

Oh, I literally have a stroke when I hear people misuse "literally".

It just decimates me! (A TWO-Fer)

Oh, I love a good language rant! Which is a bit ironic because I adore playing with words and making stuff up. But what I make up is meant to be fun and silly and absolutely not meant to "go viral" and replace more venerable/traditional/legitimate/correct language expression.

Today's contribution (though it's more like every damn day's sighting):

monthslong
yearslong
etc.

I actually saw the first one hyphenated:

blah blah lorem ipsum month-
slong

NO. Just NO.
