So I'm trying to figure out why a LOT of clients insist on making a table using a plain text box and tabs - on top of a series of lines drawn into a grid. Drives me nuts!! Personally I would use the table tool.

Sometimes it's more flexible, believe it or not. And tables can bog down an app's performance.

Hmm interesting. Well, I'm not seeing anything especially complex about these tables that would justify using a text box but I guess if it slows the system down then that's a problem. But to continue my griping,

it really causes problems when text has to be resized and reflowed. Imagine the havoc in a 200 page document with ten tables, each 8x30.

We are having the problem that parts of lines are over-printed, and some are not when using the table tool. One line, but when looked at using the over-print tool in Acrobat, it's dashed. We think we have solved it by only using spot colours (our client always has a spot colour in their publications) in a table.
