Mid-afternoon confusion

I spend quite a lot of time on a diabetes forum, and as I'm sure we all know, the word 'Type' is at least as common there as it is here.


The weather here is warming up, and my office, at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon with the sun streaming in, is a bit dozy. Just now I swapped quickly from DTP to the diabetes forum and got horribly confused when I landed in a thread about Type 2. It took a couple of goes to realise that there were no typos in the sentence I was trying to make sense of.

LOL! But see, it might have been a discussion of the various varieties of PostScript fonts. IIRC there was a Type 1 (the usual ones) and Type 3 (bitmaps, I think?). Type 2 though ... hmm.

Given the insecurities I see with some people newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, dropping Type 42 into a forum post would send many of them looking for some alcoholic sustenance to calm their nerves.


I do have to say that there is so much misinformation around about how to manage all types of diabetes that it can make people really insecure and vulnerable to influence from the many charlatans around.


And I must say, dropping that post about different Type formats into a post in the diabetes forum saying something like: 'You find Type 2 diabetes confusing? Try being a typesetter for about five minutes; you'll be thanking your lucky stars that you're dealing with diabetes and not typesetting conventions …'
