Not sure it is the right printer for you, but the February Macworld that came yesterday has a thumbnail review of the Epson Stylus Photo R1900. It lists for $550, but the Epson site has a $150 mail-in rebate now, so it ends up at $400.

The review says its prints rival dye-based inks for quality, that it “produces the best glossy photos we’ve seen from any printer priced under $1000,” is eye-popping on special Epson glossy and luster papers but also good on matte and fine-art papers, uses long-lasting inks, and prints edge-to-edge. Has 8 cartridges, one for a gloss optimizer to eliminate bronzing effects on glossy papers.

Feeds 13X19-inch flat stock; or prints 13X44-inch panels from roll stock.

Knowing Epson, I suppose the inks cost the earth, but it does look like a nice printer otherwise.
