Mellel scholar’s word processor (Mac)
Mellel 1.9.1 from RedleX is a Mac OS X word processor for scholars, technical writers, and other writers. It gets some very good reviews, although I note from browsing in its lively web forum that it does not support cross-references or indexing (though both features are promised in a future version of the software).
The web forum itself is interesting, as it is all about word processing and its members seem to be familiar with FrameMaker, Nisus, Papyrus, and other “alternative” (i.e., non-Word) word processors. Mellel costs $40 ($30 for students), and has a special offer right now for Mellel plus Bookends for $100 ($80 for students).
